Microendoscopic Discectomy Procedure
In selected cases, Dr. Siddiqi may use a combination of microsurgical and endoscopic techniques with the METRx® tubular system to perform disc surgery in a minimally invasive fashion.
Microendoscopic - Alternative Spine Surgery Techniques
This alternative procedure relieves herniated disc back pain. Those suffering from sciatica pain also benefit from this procedure. Endoscopic tools and sophisticated imaging allow the insertion of micro tubes which open a path for tools, surgical instruments and viewing options. The remainder of the surgical procedure is performend on the back and spinal discs via the small incision made for the endoscopic tube.
This minimally invasive procedure with small incisions has shorter recovery times and is less painful than traditional open surgery. Less stress on the body during procedures allow for faster recovery and rehabilitation if needed. Advantages include:
- smaller scar
- limited blood loss
- length of stay in the hospital
- less pain medication while in the hospital
The severity of your back pain and other lifestyle factors will determine whether you are a candidate for this type of spine or back procedure.
Minimally Invasive Techique for Microdiscectomy - Tunneling
The surgical procedure of separating muscles and tunneling in can be used for many minimally invasive spinal procedures including laminotomy, laminectomy, and discectomy. A small incision is made in the area and instead of cutting through muscles, tubes are inserted and the area dilated. Ever larger tubes are used until the portal area of work is sufficient to complete the procedure. Once the discectomy is complete, Dr. Siddiqi will remove the tubes, use a few stitches to close the area and bandage accordingly.
